The default windows driver works great for all my other games, but Fallout 4 will not even start.
Radeon 3870 Drivers For ThisAlso I tried downloading some of the newer Win10 drivers for this card on this site, but all of them after installation, say in device manager, list driver version but say this device has no drivers installed for it Is there some installation process I am missing Or are the drivers just not working for the Radeon 3870 X2 Please help thanks.I think the default windows display drivers are supplementing when it says these new drivers are installed, as even Fallout 3 runs like a dinosaur as do other 3D games. It says installing driver, but when its done it says the driver version is new and installed under the driver tab, but still says this device has no driver under general tab on the ATI Mobility Radeon 3870 X2 under Display adapters. Also, once if we can get these running on my system, which is the most current I found the October 5th 2015 one. Why I thought I was doing something wrong though is with these drivers on here, even the old Fallout 3 when I load it chugs so its unplayable. Also like been said earlier in the thread your system doesnt come close to the minimal requirements. I am sorry to say this and i am not trying to put you down or anything, but the reality and fact is your whole sistem is very outdated and does not even meet the minimum requirements to play Fallout 4, hence why Fallout 4 runs as a slide show and will never be able to produce playable framerates even in the lowest of the lowest in game settings and lowest resolution. Your Laptop M17 uses an ancient low clocked Old Intel Core 2 Duo ( Dual Core CPU ), your very old VGA is outdated by todays standards for gaming, 3870x2 has only 512MB of vram mirrored for crossfire. So it is not a 1GB video card, it is a 512MB video card, release date for your video card was February 2008, almost 8 years ago Also your laptop M17 comes with only 4GB of system memory as per the M17 specifications. There is no magical driver that will help you run the game with playable frame rates, no way dude. I am surprise that the game even loads at all with only 512MB of VRam ), harsh reality but is true. I would strongly reccomend you to sale your Old Laptop Alienware M17 and upgrade to something more up to date in order for you to enjoy playing Fallout 4 ( and gaming in general ). Fallout 4: PC graphics performance benchmark review - Image Quality and System requirements:,3.html I hope that helps you understand why you cannot play Fallout 4. If you have this ancient cpu Intel Core2 Duo Processor T9600 now on your Laptop still it is a very low clocked dual core at 2.8Ghz and the game requiers as minimum a Quad Core CPU Intel Core i5 Quad core 2.8Ghz or a AMD Phenom 945 X4 Quad core cpu at 3.0Ghz. ![]() The PCIe bridge chip on 3870 x2s is also limited to PCIe 1.1 transfer speeds between both GPUs further handicapping performance. Most people running it will need a quad or higher with 2.8Ghz at least. Radeon 3870 Windows 10 X64 AndAnd your best bet for getting most performance available out of that old chip is to not even use Windows 10 x64 and the crummy 8.970.xx beta based drivers at all. Use Windows 7 x64 instead with Catalyst 9.8 or 10.3 mobility and see if the game launches and plays better in that scenario. Later drivers offered practically nothing of value for the 48xx series never mind the 38xx series. Along with restraining the resolution and detail levels for F4, thats about the best setup to run it you can hope for.
